HYROX Is Coming to Trussville — And CrossFit Trussville Is Ready to Train You

HYROX is the fastest-growing fitness competition in the world. If you haven't heard of it yet, you will. And if you're in Trussville, there's now exactly one place to train for it properly.

CrossFit Trussville — the gym that has produced Games athletes, Regional competitors, GRID League teams, Ironman finishers, and marathon runners — is now offering dedicated HYROX training classes every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm.

This isn't a new gym trying to cash in on a trend. This is 18 years of coaching experience being pointed at a sport that was built for people who already love to train hard.

What Is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness race that combines running with functional workout stations. Every race follows the same format: 8 rounds of 1km run followed by 1 functional workout station. The stations are always the same — ski erg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls.

No surprises. No random movements. Same race everywhere in the world. That's what makes it so compelling — you train for a specific standard and you compete against that standard in Birmingham, Nashville, Dallas, or Berlin.

The catch? Most people who show up to their first HYROX race are completely unprepared for how hard it actually is.

Why HYROX Is Harder Than It Looks

On paper, HYROX looks straightforward. In practice, it destroys people who train the wrong way.

The biggest mistake: training for HYROX like it's a running race. It's not. The sled pushes and sled pulls alone will make your legs feel like they belong to someone else. Combine that with having to run another kilometer immediately after, and you understand why pacing, power output, and recovery are all skills that have to be trained — not guessed at.

The second biggest mistake: training for it like it's just a gym workout. The transitions between running and stations, the sustained aerobic output over 60-90+ minutes, the mental demand of 8 full rounds — these are race-specific skills. You have to train in a way that mirrors what race day actually feels like.

That's exactly what our HYROX classes are built around.

What HYROX Training at CrossFit Trussville Looks Like

Our Tuesday and Thursday 6pm HYROX classes are coached sessions — not open gym, not "figure it out on the rower." You're going to learn the race movements, train your pacing strategy, build the engine you need to sustain effort across 8km of running plus 8 stations, and develop the mental toughness that separates people who finish strong from people who survive.

Our coaches have spent 18 years programming for competitive athletes and everyday people alike. That dual ability — knowing how to push an elite athlete and knowing how to build a beginner's foundation without breaking them — is exactly what HYROX training requires. The sport attracts a wide spectrum of fitness levels. Our coaching serves all of them.

Why CrossFit Trussville Is the Right Place to Train

There are newer gyms. There are facilities with shinier equipment. What you won't find anywhere else in the area is 18 years of producing athletes who compete at the highest levels of functional fitness.

Our program has sent athletes to the CrossFit Games. We competed in the GRID League. Our members have crossed Ironman finish lines and marathon finish lines. We've coached people who had never worked out a day in their lives into athletes who compete regionally.

HYROX is a different sport, but the coaching principles are the same: understand the demands of the event, build the athlete systematically, and prepare them to perform when it counts.

We earned the title of Best Gym in Trussville in 2025. We don't plan on giving that up.

Who HYROX Is For

HYROX has four competitive divisions: Solo, Doubles, Relay, and HYROX Doubles RX (elite). If you've never raced before, you can start with the doubles format or relay — they're designed for teams and they're a great entry point into competition without the pressure of doing it alone.

If you're already fit and looking for a new target, Solo or RX will give you something to train toward that's genuinely challenging.

If you're somewhere in between — you work out, you're reasonably fit, you want to do something that actually tests you — HYROX is built for you.
