Rebuilt from the Ashes: CrossFit HQ Features CrossFit Trussville’s Story of Resilience
It’s not every day your gym gets featured by CrossFit HQ. But then again, not every gym walks through fire—literally—and comes out stronger on the other side.
Back in March, CrossFit HQ shared our story with the world. It was a moment of reflection, pride, and deep gratitude for what we’ve built—and rebuilt—at CrossFit Trussville.
In May 2023, our gym burned to the ground. No warning. No prep. One minute we were planning the week ahead, and the next, we were standing in front of rubble and ashes. Years of work. Gone.
But here’s the thing:
We didn’t cancel a single class.
We didn’t lose our people.
We didn’t back down.
Church Floors and Unshakable Community
Within 24 hours, we were operating out of Gateway Family Church—setting up and tearing down equipment every day. Our community showed up in full force. Members helped haul gear, coaches adapted on the fly, and our classes continued with the same energy, effort, and grit we were known for.
For nearly two years, we made it work.
Not because it was easy. But because this place—and the people in it—are worth it.
Candace, my wife and co-founder, was my rock. Our staff leaned in with everything they had. And our members? They proved what we always say: strong people build strong communities.
From Church Gym to The PHNX
On May 23, 2025, we officially reopened at The PHNX Collective & Venue, our brand-new home built right in the heart of downtown Trussville.
It’s more than a gym. It’s a symbol.
Of grit. Of grace. Of a community that doesn’t quit.
And now, it’s the home of not just CrossFit Trussville—but also ReBoot, Thrive Nutrition, CFT Kids, Weightlifting, Legends 50+, and an on-site physical therapist and massage therapist. This is what rebuilding looks like—with intention, heart, and purpose.
What It Really Means to Be Featured
When CrossFit HQ recognized our journey, they didn’t just feature a gym. They featured the spirit of resilience, leadership, and what’s possible when people don’t give up.
Here’s what they wrote:
“Andrew Rape is the owner of CrossFit Trussville - ReBoot/Nutrition in Alabama, where he has built a strong, resilient community. In May of last year, Andrew faced an unexpected challenge when a fire destroyed his gym. Rather than shutting down or pausing operations, he quickly found a temporary space at a local church and ensured that his members didn’t miss a single class… His leadership in the face of adversity exemplifies the spirit of CrossFit — perseverance, adaptability, and a commitment to helping others stay on track with their fitness.”
It’s humbling. It’s motivating. And it’s a reminder that what we do matters.
Not just for the people in our classes today… but for every person watching from the sidelines, wondering if now’s the time to start.
